Winter Sunrise on the Snake | Southern Idaho Landscape Fine Art Print

from $75.00

Horizontal orientation.

These small rapids on the Snake River are found at the Niagara Springs Wildlife Management Area near Hagerman Idaho.  I made a return trip here in January 2025, after visiting earlier during the winter break where I found steam rising from the river, forming rime ice on the surrounding trees and grasses, and making a perfect winter wonderland. I returned wanting to capture the sunrise on the river. I drove into the wildlife management area and parked near the river and hiked along following the sound of the rapids. As I got nearer, the brush was very thick and difficult to get through, and there were areas covered with water that I had to navigate around or through on rocks. I could hear the roaring of the water and eventually worked my way to the edge of the river where I could get a good view. The rocks along the shoreline were icy and very slippery, and I hadn’t brought waterproof boots, so it was an adventure getting around! The skies were clear and it was about 17 degrees, so any surface that was wet was slippery. I found a few good viewpoints though and captured this image as the sun was just rising over the tree line along the shore, casting warm sunbeams across the ice and water.
