Wildflowers at Snowyside Pass

The magnificent Sawtooth Mountains in central Idaho are popular for photography, as well as hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities. The Alice-Toxaway Loop is one of the most popular hikes in the Stanley area, beginning at the Tin Cup Trailhead and passing Farley, Toxaway, Twin, and Alice Lakes along the way. I backpacked the loop the last week of July 2026, hiking 13 miles the first day, so that I could be at the base of the steepest climb in the morning. I broke camp and had breakfast before daylight in hopes that I would catch sunrise views along the climb up Snowyside Pass. As the sun rose it cast a golden glow on Snowyside Peak, and I was able to capture several images during the golden hour. All along the trail there were small streams flowing down to the unnamed lakes I had camped at, and alongside the streams were meadows of beautiful wildflowers. As I rounded one of the switchbacks, this glacial formed stretch of granite leading down from the base of Snowyside Peak caught my attention, especially with the morning light giving it a golden glow. I liked how the granite leads the eye up to the peak.
