On September 11th each year, the Magic Valley 9/11Memorial volunteer committee with the assistance of the Twin Falls Police and Fire Departments hold a commemorative event and display an enormous US flag in front of the Perrine Bridge. In 2026, to honor the 250th birthday of the United States of America, the committee arranged to display the flag for a couple of weeks surrounding Independence Day. The view of the bridge over the Snake River canyon is already spectacular on any given day, but the view of the flag flying is such an inspiration. This summer has been a kaleidoscope of weather, including thunderstorms as well as hot clear days. I have been watching the weather closely in the mornings to get some sunrise photos of the flag and on June 30th the sunrise was deep orange and there was just a slight breeze keeping the flag billowing. In the low light conditions, capturing the flag without movement blur was challenging, but with patience and persistence I was able to capture this image. It is one of my favorite images of the flag close up.
