The Eviction at City of Rocks
Horizontal orientation. Canvas prints are available with optional barnwood or hardwood floating frames hand-crafted by the photographer, making a truly unique and one-of-a-kind piece of art. Please see images for details.
The City of Rocks National Reserve near Almo on the southern border of Idaho is a popular area for rock climbing as well as hiking and sight-seeing. The massive granite formations are beautiful, and much larger than they appear from a distance! It is hot and dry during the summer months, but on this early June morning, the air was cool and comfortable. I had previously decided to hike a popular trail called Stripe Rock to North Fork Circle Creek and left early enough to catch the sunrise. There were no clouds that morning however, and although there was a little color in the sky both east and west, it wasn’t a very spectacular sunrise. I hiked and took photos of several popular rock formations, many of which have been named. This one is called Eviction. The hike was about 10 miles with 1500 feet of elevation gain, so it was great exercise. This is the second hike I have been on where trail runners passed by me like I was standing still, even on a fairly steep uphill climb. I think it’s commendable, but don’t really understand the appeal! I hike to enjoy peace and solitude, and I take my time to soak in the moment!
