Terraced pools along the hike to Comet Falls | Western Washington Landscape Fine Art Print

from $75.00

Horizontal orientation. Images include an optional hand-crafted 8×10 barn wood frame and mat for a 5×7 canvas print.

Comet Falls on Mount Rainier in Washington is one of the most popular attractions, although it requires a rather strenuous hike, gaining 1200 feet in about two miles of distance. Our new daughter-in-law came to visit one summer with our son, and wanted to tackle a hike on the mountain, so we decided on the Comet Falls hike. We had some of our other kids with us as well, and all-in-all the hike was too much for our group. However, within the first mile of the hike there are numerous magnificent scenes, including areas where the river drops steeply, forming terraced pools along the way. We lucked out with the time of day that we started hiking, because the sun was just making its way through the trees, and lighting the pools with a soft clear blue color. I don’t think I have ever seen anything quite like this in any other hikes, and I wanted to capture some of the beauty of it. Unfortunately, the trail follows alongside the river, and there is usually a steep drop from the trail to any vantage point where one can photograph the pools clearly. My family was a little upset with me for climbing out to a point where I could get a photo, but little do they know how often I do something similar!
