Squiggly Aspens in the South Hills
Horizontal orientation. Canvas prints are available with optional barnwood or hardwood floating frames hand-crafted by the photographer, making a truly unique and one-of-a-kind piece of art. Please see images for details.
The South Hills region of the Sawtooth National Forest is a popular area for hiking, trail riding, hunting, and camping. In a little over an hour’s drive south of Twin Falls, one can reach the Magic Mountain ski area, where there are nearby roads and trails that lead to fantastic views of golden Aspens and autumn colors. I spent a Saturday morning the first weekend in October driving up some of these roads and finding all sorts of magnificent fall colors. After a fantastic sunrise spent with a cow moose only about 50 feet away, I began driving back down and stopped at one of my favorite trails in the area, the Eagle Loop Trail. In a few spots along the trail there are Aspens that have grown in a unique way, with bends in their trunks near the base of the trees. As I was returning back to the trailhead, the rising sun cast some beautiful shadows and light on the trees alongside the trail near Rock Creek Road, and I was able to capture some of these squiggly trees from a perspective where the lines created by the trail and road converge in the distance, with the sunlight lighting the trees along the trail.
