This summer the falls were not flowing at full volume until the first week of June and then were cut back again the first of August to preserve irrigation water for the valley. When I learned that they were flowing in June, I went out several times to get some photos. I don't really like the full daylight sun on the falls for photos, so I went in the early morning, but even then, the mists from the falls reflect the light and obscure the view. I decided to try a view at night and drove out to try my luck. The park closes at 10:00pm, and I did not want to get locked in, so I set up my equipment at about 9:30 and shot until about 5 minutes to 10:00. It was dark enough that I needed to use a 30-second exposure, but I love how smooth the resulting water flow looks, as well as the surfaces of water above and below the falls. Amazingly, there was no breeze, and none of the vegetation moved during the entire 30 seconds! The mists did not block the view, and I was able to get an angle that I liked. Not another person was around while I was out there, which was peaceful in itself, but the beautiful evening was serene and calm, and I did not have a worry in the world...other than possibly getting locked in the park!
