This image was taken on my first hike in the Sawtooth Mountains of central Idaho. I had been researching a hike in the 6–10-mile range, and this popular hike to Alice Lake is about 6-7 miles from the trailhead. I got on the road about 3:30am and got to the trailhead about 6:30. The creeks, waterfalls, wildflowers, mountain peaks, and other scenery along the hike were so magnificent that I wanted to take photos of everything! Alice Lake was so calm, peaceful and beautiful, but I was so thrilled and delighted by the fantastic scenery that I didn’t want to stop hiking. The trail that I was hiking is a loop trail but is about 20 miles in total length. I continued to the next set of gorgeous lakes, and there decided I was going to hike the entire loop! I stopped and got off the trail to take photos in so many places that I made the trail another mile longer, finishing 21 miles at about 5:30 in the afternoon! This image allows me to remember and reflect on the beauty that I was too excited to fully grasp that day! The shadow of the mountain in the lake was an unexpected bonus, not as visible as the reflection was in my camera viewfinder. The lake, mountain peaks, and crisp cool air made time seem to stand still, and this view does so again each time I look at the image!
