The South Hills region of the Sawtooth National Forest is a popular area for hiking, trail riding, and camping. Within an hour’s drive south of Twin Falls, one can reach the very moderate and beautiful Eagle Loop Trail. Along this popular trail people often spot moose, but it is also one of the best trails to view fall colors as well as spring flowers. In the first week of June 2025, I hiked this loop for the first time and was mesmerized by vast meadows filled with Lupine and Arrow leaf Balsamroot. I began hiking at about 6:00am, reaching these meadows around 7:00 as the sun was making its way up above the treetops. The warm golden rays of sunlight lit the flowers from behind, giving them a splendid glow. I personally find lupines to be one of the most beautiful of the alpine wildflowers, but when I came across this scene with the contrasting purple and gold colors, I had to stop and take in the beauty and capture this moment forever!
