The South Hills region of the Sawtooth National Forest is a popular area for hiking, trail riding, hunting, and camping. In a little over an hour’s drive south of Twin Falls, one can reach the Magic Mountain ski area, where there are nearby roads and trails that lead to fantastic views of golden Aspens and autumn colors. I spent a Saturday morning the first weekend in October driving up some of these roads and finding all sorts of magnificent fall colors. After a fantastic sunrise spent with a cow moose only about 50 feet away, the sunlight began to fall beautifully across the hillsides, bathing the Aspens and Pines in warm golden light. The rolling hills and stands of trees fascinated me, and I practically ran from spot to spot capturing views of the light across the trees and hills. This image is one of my favorites because the curves created by the trees and also the hillsides lead the eye throughout the scene into the hazy distance, with random patches of warm sunlight.
