On September 11th each year, the Magic Valley 9/11Memorial volunteer committee with the assistance of the Twin Falls Police and Fire Departments hold a commemorative event and display an enormous US flag in front of the Perrine Bridge. The view of the bridge over the Snake River canyon is already spectacular on any given day, but the view of the flag suspended in front of the bridge is such an inspiration. This fall I drove down to the Mogensen Trailhead while it was still dark and hiked down to one of my favorite viewpoints to get some photos of the magnificent flag display. I was pleasantly surprised to find a large bush of rabbit brush in full bloom right where I like to shoot from. The golden flowers are an iconic part of the desert landscape in the fall and were the perfect complement to the golden sun rising over the canyon rim. The perfectly still water created a magnificent reflection of the bridge and flag, and the calm air allowed the flag to hang still with just a slight billow. This image is one of my favorites from the 9/11 memorial this fall of 2026.
