Old Sheep Bridge on the Big Wood River | Southern Idaho Landscape Fine Art Print
Horizontal orientation.
As a teacher I sometimes don’t get out often to shoot during the winter months, but during the 2025/26 winter break I took a drive on the scenic Idaho Medal of Honor highway to see the Big Wood River and Fairfield areas. In looking at maps ahead of time, I had a few points of interest that I was sure I wanted to stop at, and one of those was a historic old sheep bridge crossing the Big Wood River. I arrived at the site of the old bridge just as the sun was cresting the horizon, and although there were quite a few clouds, it was very bright that morning. I wanted to capture the view looking east, so I waited for moments when the sun was behind clouds to avoid the colors being too washed out. The wintertime orange and red brush was captivating, and I wanted to be sure to capture this. The old bridge is truly a fascinating relic, but also a little intimidating as many of the planks are broken, worn out, or missing and the support cables are rusted and weathered. I’m typically all for adventure, but the idea of crossing this bridge was a little too risky for my taste. I explored the area, hiked down to the river’s edge, and shot several images from many angles. Even with the very bright conditions, this is a favorite.
