Morning Light at City of Rocks

from $75.00

Horizontal orientation. Canvas prints are available with optional barnwood or hardwood floating frames hand-crafted by the photographer, making a truly unique and one-of-a-kind piece of art. Please see images for details.

The City of Rocks National Reserve near Almo on the southern border of Idaho is a popular area for rock climbing as well as hiking and sight-seeing. The massive granite formations are beautiful, and much larger than they appear from a distance! It is hot and dry during the summer months, but on this early May morning, the air was cool and comfortable. After scrambling around on some of the rock formations earlier in the morning, I decided to hike a boundary trail and see some of the views from a distance. As I hiked, the trail got much steeper and narrower, and I soon found myself up much higher, with a spectacular view of the landscape. I found a position along the trail where from my perspective the enormous rock formations formed a line into the distance, and the sunlight spread across the land. I took several images from here, but the contrast was the most pronounced in this one, and the warm golden sunlight was magnificent.
