The Pacific coast beaches are known for their remarkable beauty, and Second Beach in the Olympic National Park is stunning. There are splendid sea stacks, open beaches, beautiful driftwood, caves, and fantastic coastlines along the beach. My wife is not a camper, but she agreed to pack in with me and stay overnight on the beach. We were lucky enough to behold one of the most spectacular sunsets I have ever seen that evening on the beach. During the sunset the tide was out, but the waves rolled quite far up onto the beach, and as they receded the wet sand became a perfect mirror image of the sky and sea stacks. Pebbles and birds on the sand looked almost as if they were floating in the sky. The fog had been thick throughout the day, as was usual there, but it broke up a little at sunset, revealing blue skies and sunlight. For a couple of hours, I felt like I was in a photographer's dreamland! I had only been focusing on photography for a couple of years, and was not very skilled yet, but this remains in my memory as one of the most wonderful experiences in my years shooting landscapes. I have only been back once and was not nearly as lucky as we were on that special evening spent on the beach in August of 2014.
