Granite and Wildflowers at Lake Cleveland
Horizontal orientation. Canvas prints are available with optional barnwood or hardwood floating frames hand-crafted by the photographer, making a truly unique and one-of-a-kind piece of art. Please see images for details.
Lake Cleveland sits at 8200 feet above sea level near Mount Harrison in the Albion Mountains. It is just a few miles from the Pomerelle Ski Area and is popular in the summer months for camping. Typically, the road is not open until the first week of July due to snow, and once the snow melts off, the wildflowers begin to bloom. The lake is fed by a creek that runs down from the peaks to the west, and the heaviest concentration of flowers is on the hillside along the creek. On July 7, 2026, I made an early morning excursion to see the sunrise and flowers, and I was not disappointed! The snowpack was light this year, so the creek was completely dry already, so I followed it up the hill stopping wherever the angle was right to capture the sun rising over the tree line in the background. In this image I was able to capture Indian Paintbrush, Penstemon, and a variety of white phlox and other varieties, with a backdrop of the rising sun. We had some stormy weather recently, and some of the clouds were dark and ominous, but this made the sunrise much more interesting. This view is a wide angle, making the clouds more prominent.
