This fall I have been particularly watchful for fall colors in surrounding neighborhoods, including near the school where I teach music. One Friday afternoon I noticed some maple trees in peak fall color in the lot across from my school and decided to photograph them the following morning at sunrise. The morning was cooler than usual with frost covering everything as I was setting up to shoot. I waited until the light was golden and set up my camera nearly on the grass, lying on a frosty sidewalk to find the right view. I took several shots with the intention of combining focus depths and exposures and was on the sidewalk long enough to make it rather difficult for this old body to get back up! It was all worth it, however, to get the foreground leaves in focus as well as the row of gold-adorned trees, contrasting with the wet green grass.
