Frozen Camas Prairie Marsh | Southern Idaho Landscape Fine Art Print

from $75.00

Horizontal orientation.

The Camas Prairie and Soldier Mountains near Fairfield Idaho attract tourists and photographers during the last weeks of May and early June, who travel to see the splendor of the blooming Camas Lilies at Centennial Marsh. I came across this scene along the highway when I first visited in May 2025 and stopped to photograph it because its beauty struck me. It is likely just an irrigation runoff pond among the fields and pastures. When I took a wintertime drive through the area, I found the water frozen and the scene just as striking and beautiful as in summer, just in a different way. The low clouds enshrouded the tops of the Soldier Mountains, which typically have much more snow in the winter. Often the whole area has plenty of snow, but this winter has been unusually warm with little snow. The weathered fenceposts protruding from the ice, and the golden grasses caught my attention in contrast to the snow-covered mountains, and although I initially took the image primarily to compare with the summer one, I feel that this one stands just fine on its own as a beautiful winter image.
