The South Hills region of the Sawtooth National Forest is a popular area for hiking, trail riding, hunting, and camping. In a little over an hour’s drive south of Twin Falls, one can reach the Magic Mountain ski area, where there are nearby roads and trails that lead to fantastic views of golden Aspens and autumn colors. I spent a Saturday morning the first weekend in October driving up some of these roads and finding all sorts of magnificent fall colors. After a fantastic sunrise spent with a cow moose only about 50 feet away, I began driving back down and stopped at several lookout points with beautiful views of fall colors. The stand of Aspens in this image was set back from the roadway at the edge of a meadow of brush that was also turning orange and gold. The contrast of the evergreens with the yellow Aspens with white trunks was captivating. Some of the trees stood in front out in the open a bit more, and the wind had already stripped their leaves completely, while those in the back still kept all of their foliage, creating a wonderful autumn scene.
