Early dawn at Upper Salmon Falls
Vertical orientation. Canvas prints are available with optional barnwood or hardwood floating frames hand-crafted by the photographer, making a truly unique and one-of-a-kind piece of art. Please see images for details.
This gorgeous cascading waterfall near Hagerman Idaho is called Upper Salmon Falls. This area has half a dozen different waterfalls, some small and some rather large and spectacular. The location is a favorite of mine to photograph. It is beautiful during every season of the year, and I have enjoyed capturing snow falling there in wintertime, summer sunrises, and autumn colors as well. This image was captured on a beautiful spring morning in May. I arrived well before sunrise and hiked by flashlight to the falls. I took several blue hour images a little further downstream, and then as it became light enough to see I set up this shot. Some of the falls in this area are easy to access, but this one requires either wading in the water or jumping across a rather deep crevice to get to an island section that allows this view of the falls. It is not really possible to get any closer due to the steep canyon walls, but from a safe distance I was able to capture this view. I have captured similar images here, but this one stands out because of the way the light of dawn catches the smooth water in the long exposure image.
