The City of Rocks National Reserve near Almo on the southern border of Idaho is a popular area for rock climbing as well as hiking and sight-seeing. The massive granite formations are beautiful, and much larger than they appear from a distance! It is typically hot and dry during the summer months, but on the morning that this image was taken, the air was cool and comfortable. I began the hike by stopping at this popular and magnificent viewpoint of the entire valley for the sunrise. I have explored this area in the past and enjoyed shooting images from various perspectives along this overlook, but that morning I decided to try a multiple image panorama to try to capture some of the grandeur of the massive rocks in the scene before me. I have explored many attractions in southern Idaho, but nowhere else have I seen such massive granite formations as those that cover the valley in this scene. Several weeks after I took this photo I was in a downtown county building and saw a very similar photo in the hallway that looked as if it was a single image. I do not know who the photographer is, but it is very impressive to me after photographing the area myself.
