Castle Rocks State Park in Cassia County attracts climbers, hikers, and campers, as well as photographers. In June of 2025 I made a visit to explore the area, arriving just after sunrise. The volcanic rock formations are similar to those in City of Rocks a few miles away, and hiking through the area made me feel quite small in comparison! As I reached some of the first formations along the trail, the sun was just coming over the horizon, and I was able to position myself where I could capture a sunburst along the edge of the rocks. There weren’t many wildflowers, but I was able to get a few in the foreground. I found mostly cactus flowers that day, which were amazingly beautiful! I made a loop around the park, taking advantage of the morning sunlight making its way across the landscape, and trying to capture its warm rays wherever I could. This is one of my favorite images because I was able to include the sunburst as well as the leading line of the trail curving around the rocks.
