Balanced Boulder, City of Rocks | Southern Idaho Landscape Fine Art Print

from $75.00

This print, framed in a natural barn wood frame with traces of the original vintage red and white paint sealed with a protective finish, created by the photographer, is truly unique and one-of-a-kind. An additional image shows the framed print hung on a wall with other furniture, to give a sense of size and scale of the finished artwork. Available also as a print only without frame, in three optional sizes and materials.

The City of Rocks National Reserve near Almo on the southern border of Idaho is a popular area for rock climbing as well as hiking and sight-seeing. The massive granite formations are beautiful, and much larger than they appear from a distance! It is hot and dry during the summer months, but on this early May morning, the air was cool and comfortable. After scrambling around on some of the rock formations earlier in the morning, I decided to hike a boundary trail and see some of the views from a distance. As I hiked, I saw a little offshoot from the trail that looked like a dead end, but I followed it anyway. After a short distance, I came to a rock that I had to climb up, and once I reached the top, it opened to a magnificent view of this boulder balanced neatly on the surrounding rock formations. The sun was beginning to rise high enough to cast a beautiful golden glow on the sides of some of the rocks. The gnarly dead trees at the base of the rocks stuck out wildly in all directions and made a perfect foreground element for this image. The rock formations are amazing, but it’s always fun to get some beautiful lighting on a fantastic subject. This is one of my favorites, and it received a lot of reactions on social media as well.
