The magnificent Sawtooth Mountains in central Idaho are popular for photography, as well as hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities. The hike to Sawtooth Lake is phenomenal, and along the way is this beautiful little mountain lake called Alpine Lake. I stopped at this lake for almost two hours and shot several images of the mountain peaks reflecting in the lake. When I got back on the trail to Sawtooth Lake, there were several switchbacks and steep climbs with views of Alpine Lake all along the way. I searched for some wildflowers to place in the foreground, and with my widest-angle lens I tried to include as many of the beautiful elements as possible in this photo. The skies were streaked with clouds, diffusing some of the sunlight and allowing the colors to pop. I couldn't get the tallest peaks in the frame, but ones in the background are striking and magnificent. The lake was no longer calm, but it reflected the beautiful blue and green of the sky and vegetation. The blooming Penstemon draws the eye into the frame, and the other elements invite the eye to move from one to another before finding the bright sky. This is one of my favorite compositions from the hike.
