The 9/11 memorial flag that is stretched across the river at the Perrine Bridge is a magnificent sight! On Sept. 11 each year, the city of Twin Falls holds an opening Ceremony at the visitors center, and stretches a cable across the Snake River Canyon to display an enormous United States flag. The viewpoint that I chose for this photo is one of my favorites even when the flag is not displayed, but on this particular mid-September morning, the river was as calm as glass, and the view as the sun creseted the horizon and struck the flag was spectacular! There were more than a dozen photographers out that morning, each looking for the perfect vantage point. I tend to move from place to place, searching for different views than the standard straight-on perspective. This paid off for this image, as I had climbed partway down the hillside (cliffside) to get a shot where the sun was just becoming visible, and wasn't yet so bright as to wash out the sky and surrounding areas. It turned out to be a rather glorious view, and is one of my favorite images from that morning shoot.
