My wife grew up in the Shelley/Idaho Falls area, and we visited family every summer. That evening, I had been exploring the rural west side of Idaho, and I could not have been luckier than running across this magnificent red barn just as an incredible sunset was in progress. I took so many photos that evening that I could not decide which were the best. There were so many elements that I wanted to include in the composition, including the ripe golden wheat in the foreground, the incredible barn, the grain silos and auger, and the potato cellar. In this image I was able to capture these forming a leading line to the setting sun, along with the spectacular clouds reflecting purple, orange, yellow, and red in the evening sky. The entire sky was filled with fantastic colors, and the evening was as beautiful as I have ever seen. While shooting, I approached the barn and house, and the couple living there were out enjoying the sunset as well. I overheard the young lady say that they had never had anyone photograph their barn before. I remember being amazed, because it was in such an ideal spot, and the sunset was so striking. I was sure it was a favorite spot for some photographer somewhere!
